GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith junior Paula Foote (Sidney/Sidney, N.Y.) earned her second weekly award in as many days after leading the Herons to a pair of key Liberty League basketball wins last week. She earned the Rochester Area College Athletics Co-Female Athlete of the Week today, after earning the Liberty League Co-Guard of the Week yesterday.
Foote averaged 17.0 points in a 2-0 week that saw the Herons move into a tie for first in the League. On Friday in a 76-58 win over Union, she scored a career-high 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting, including a three-pointer, and 5-of-5 from the line. On defense against the Dutchwomen, she limited the League’s leading scorer, Erika Eisenhut, to just six points (2-for-9 shooting). The following afternoon in a 52-39 win over Skidmore, Foote scored 12 points, grabbed five rebounds, and handed out three assists. For the week, she shot 61.1 percent from the floor, 42.9 percent from long range, and was perfect from the charity stripe (9-9).
In her first season as a starter, Foote leads William Smith is scoring (10.9 ppg), total assists (59), and free throw shooting (.724). She has reached double digits in scoring 12 times this season, including six of the Herons’ past seven games.
William Smith is back in action on Feb. 10, when the Herons travel to conference rival Rensselaer. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. William Smith defeated the Red Hawks earlier this season, 65-46, in Bristol Gym.
