GENEVA, N.Y.—Two William Smith College basketball players were honored by the Liberty League this afternoon. Junior Paula Foote (Sidney/Sidney, N.Y.) and sophomore Stephanie Czajkowski (Bishop Ludden/Syracuse, N.Y.) were named the Guard of the Week and Forward of the Week, respectively.

Foote averaged 17.0 points in a 2-0 week that saw the Herons move into a tie for first in the League. On Friday in a 76-58 win over Union, she scored a career-high 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting, including 5-of-5 from the line. On defense against the Dutchwomen, she limited the League’s leading scorer, Erika Eisenhut, to just six points (2-for-9 shooting). The following afternoon in a 52-39 win over Skidmore, Foote scored 12 points, grabbed five rebounds, and handed out three assists. For the week, she shot 61.1 percent from the floor, 42.9 percent from long range, and was perfect from the charity stripe (9-9).

Foote ranks in the top 10 in the conference in assists (4th, 3.1), scoring (8th, 10.9), and field goal percentage (9th, .438).

Czajkowski averaged 13.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.5 steals last week. Against Union, she scored 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting and collected six caroms and three steals. Against the Thoroughbreds, Czajkowski scored a game-high 14 points and pulled down eight rebounds. For the week, she shot 54.5 percent from the floor to increase her League leading shooting percentage to 50.6 percent.

In addition to field goal percentage, Czajkowski ranks in the top 10 in the conference in rebounding (8th, 6.4).

William Smith returns to action at 6 p.m. on Feb. 10, when the Herons travel to Rensselaer. William Smith defeated the Red Hawks earlier this season, 65-46, behind Czajkowski’s 19 points and 12 rebounds, both career highs.
