William Smith advanced to the second round on the strength of a 68-54 win over Washington & Jefferson College (21-7). The Herons outrebounded the Presidents 37-21 and used a 10-0 run to close out the contest and secure their ninth consecutive NCAA Tournament win in Bristol Gym. First-year guard Marisa Vespa (Immaculate Heart/Watertown, N.Y.) led three William Smith players in double digits with 15 points.
An at-large selection, Oswego (24-3) won its first SUNY Athletic Conference regular season title and advanced to the finals of the conference tournament for the first time. The 24 wins are a school record.
On March 11, the winner will take on the winner of the Alvernia at Bowdoin game at a site and time to be determined.
