ROCHESTER, N.Y.--The William Smith basketball team used a dominating second half to erase a one-point halftime deficit and defeat Nazareth 77-61 tonight. Sophomore forward Stephanie Czajkowski (Bishop Ludden/Syracuse, N.Y.) led four Herons in double digits with 14 points.

William Smith (2-0) trailed by as many as nine in the first half, but fought back within one, 44-43, heading into the break.

After the intermission, the Herons charged out of the gate, outscoring their hosts 9-1 to take a 52-45 lead. Sophomore guard Marisa Vespa (Immaculate Heart/Watertown, N.Y.) keyed the offensive surge with five of her 12 points on the night.

The Golden Flyers (1-2) stayed close, pulling within six, 66-60, with 9:41 remaining, but William Smith scored the game's next 10 points to put the contest out of reach.

Senior forward Tanya Richvalsky (Mohawk/Mohawk, N.Y.) contributed 12 points and eight rebounds to the Herons' winning ways, while junior guard Paula Foote (Sidney/Sidney, N.Y.) added 10 points. Senior guard Pria Young (Council Rock/Richboro, Pa.) enjoyed a solid all-around effort, recording nine points, eight rebounds, and six steals.

William Smith is back in action at 2 p.m. on Dec. 3 when the Herons host Ithaca.
