Saints down Dutchwomen, advance to Liberty final
February 25 , 2005
GENEVA, N.Y.—St. Lawrence University used a 20-8 run to open the second half to pull away from Union College in the first semifinal of the Liberty League Women’s Basketball Tournament hosted by William Smith College in Bristol Gym. Sophomore forward Andrea Muszynski (Mt. Mercy/Buffalo, N.Y.) led four Saints in double digits with a game-high 15 points.
The third-seeded Dutchwomen (17-8) erased their two-point halftime shortfall and took their final lead of the contest when senior guard Melissa Marra (Mechanicville/Mechanicville, N.Y.) canned a three-pointer with 18:15 remaining. She finished with 12 points.
The second-seeded Saints (15-9) responded with the next eight points of the game to take control of the contest. Senior guard Jessica Zuk (Arlington/Arlington, Va.) capped the run with a trifecta. She finished the afternoon with 14 points.
Union refused to go away, whittling their deficit down to four, 61-57, with 42 ticks remaining, but St. Lawrence hit four of six free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.
Sophomore forward Meredith Pridgen (Hanover/Hanover, N.H.) and first-year guard Jamie Wolff (Nardin Academy/Buffalo, N.Y.) contributed 14 and 12 points, respectively, to the winning effort.
Senior forward Emily Scott (Derryfield/Concord, N.H.) and sophomore forward Krystal Hammond (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park, N.Y.) chipped in 12 and 11, respectively, for the Dutchwomen.
