Scott, Monarchs clinch WNBA’s Western Conference

Olympia Scott and the Sacramento Monarchs will appear on ABC and ESPN2
over the next four days.

SACRAMENTO, Calif.—The WNBA Sacramento Monarchs and center Olympia Scott clinched the top seed and home court advantage throughout the first two rounds of the Western Conference playoffs last night with a 64-57 road victory over the San Antonio Silver Stars. Following the Monarchs postseason run, Scott will return for her second season as head coach of the William Smith College basketball team.
The Monarchs (22-8) will be featured on two national broadcasts in a span of four days. Sacramento hosts the Seattle Storm (17-13) on Aug. 20 at 4 p.m. ET on ABC. On Aug. 23, the Monarchs will visit Phoenix (14-15) for a 10 p.m. ET tipoff on ESPN2.
Sacramento (22-8) was lead by the offensive attack of Kara Lawson, who connected on four of six three-pointers to register 17 points, and Rebekkah Brunson, who chipped in with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Scott, who was the 2005 Liberty League Coach of the Year, contributed three offensive rebounds and an assist.
Scott, who was hampered by early season injuries, has seen her playing time steadily increase over the past few weeks. She is averaging 9.2 minutes, 2.0 points, and 1.8 rebounds in 14 games.
