Coney earns Liberty League weekly praise

GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith sophomore Latasha Coney (Lyons/Lyons, N.Y.) was named the Liberty League Women’s Basketball Co-Guard of the Week by the league office this afternoon. She averaged 11.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals for the Herons in a 1-1 Liberty League weekend.
Coney logged a team-high 11 points and seven rebounds in a 65-56 loss to St. Lawrence on Friday. She was 5-of-8 from the floor and connected on her lone three-point attempt against the Saints. The following afternoon Coney narrowly missed a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds in a 65-53 win over Clarkson. She also had three steals and two assists without a turnover against the Golden Knights. For the weekend, Coney shot 55.6 percent from the floor (10-18) and was 2-of-3 from the line.
For the season, Coney has played in all 12 games, earning three starts. She is fifth on the team in scoring, 6.5 ppg, and third in rebounding, 4.6 rpg. Averaging 21.3 minutes per game, Coney has 16 steals and 15 assists.
William Smith (7-5) is back in action on Jan. 19, when the Herons travel to conference rival Skidmore. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
