GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College junior Marisa Vespa (Immaculate Heart/Watertown, N.Y.) was honored by Rochester Area Colleges Athletics (RACA) as the Co-Female Athlete of the Week, after leading the Herons’ basketball team to a 1-1 record over the weekend.
A point guard, Vespa made 70.6 percent of her field goal attempts, including 4-for-7 from beyond the arch, over two games. She averaged 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 3.5 steals, while committing just one turnover per game. Vespa netted 14 points and added four rebounds, three assists and three steals in a 73-61 victory at Skidmore on Jan. 19, then racked up 21 points, five rebounds, six assists and four steals in the next afternoon’s loss at Union.
Vespa is one of the top guards in the Liberty League, ranking first in assists (5.85 apg), steals (2.77 spg), and fourth in scoring (12.2 ppg). She also ranks 11th in the nation in assists.
