Atti named UCAA Rookie of the Week

GENEVA, N.Y.--William Smith College basketball player Maria Atti (Kenmore East/Buffalo, N.Y.) was recognized by the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association for her play during a 3-0 week for the Herons. The first-year was named the league's Rookie of the Week.

Atti averaged 8.3 points per game and 5.0 assists per game with a 3.8 assist to turnover ratio in Heron wins over SUNY-Fredonia, SUNY-Brockport, and Mount St. Mary College. Against the Blue Devils, the guard scored seven points, grabbed six boards, and recorded three assists. She narrowly missed a triple-double against the Golden Eagles with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists. Atti netted six points, assisted on three baskets, and pulled in three rebounds in William Smith's come-from-behind-win over the Knights. She is fifth on the team in scoring at 7.8 points per game, leads the team and is third in the UCAA with 3.0 steals per game, and is second on the team and third in the league with 4.0 assists per game.

The Herons (5-0) begin a four-game road trip at Ithaca College tonight at 7 p.m. Last season, William Smith defeated the Bombers 66-55 in Geneva.
