Cornwell named to ECAC Upstate Honor Roll

GENEVA, N.Y.--William Smith College basketball player Leah Cornwell (Wheatland-Chili/Scottsville, N.Y.) was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Upstate Division III Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending Dec. 9. The senior, who was also named the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association's Forward of the Week, registered game-highs in points (22) and rebounds (12) in a 68-61 road loss to Ithaca College.
Cornwell was the center of the Bombers' attention on Dec. 4, as she earned 16 trips to the free throw line, converting 11. She also handed out four assists, recorded three steals, and blocked a shot. Cornwell ranks fifth in the league in scoring (15.0 ppg), and needs just 126 points to reach the 1,000-point plateau.
The Herons opened the season with five straight wins before falling to Ithaca, the team's best start since 1996-97. William Smith returns to action on Jan. 4, in the opening round of the Frostburg State (Md.) Tournament. The Herons will face Washington (Md.) College at 6 p.m.
