Cornwell named to ECAC Upstate Honor Roll

GENEVA, N.Y. -The Eastern College Athletic Conference has named William Smith College basketball player Leah Cornwell (Wheatland-Chili/Scottsville, N.Y.) to the ECAC Upstate Division III Weekly Honor Roll. The senior averaged 21.0 points and 12.7 rebounds in a 3-0 week for the Herons.

At Hamilton on Jan. 22, Cornwell touched the Continentals for 22 points and 12 rebounds in a 14-point William Smith win. On Jan. 25, she led the Herons to an upset of 18th-ranked St. Lawrence with a game-high 25 points and a season-high 15 rebounds, while handing out a season-high matching five assists. In the win over the Saints, Cornwell also recorded her 1,000th career point becoming just the 10th Heron to reach that milestone.

The following afternoon, she closed out the week with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and a career-high six blocked shots in a 26-point blowout of Clarkson.

Through 16 games, Cornwell is second on the team and second in league in scoring (17.8 ppg), leads the team and is third in the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association in rebounding (9.2 rpg). For her career, she ranks 10th in points scored (1,033) and sixth in rebounds (628). Cornwell is also the UCAA Center of the Week.

William Smith is 13-3 on the season and 6-1 in the UCAA, tied for first place with St. Lawrence. The Herons return to action at 6 p.m., on Feb. 1, when they host Union College.
