Hadwin named to ECAC Upstate All-Star team

CAPE COD, Mass.—William Smith College senior forward Laura Hadwin (Vestal/Vestal, N.Y.) was recently named to the ECAC Division III Women’s Upstate Basketball First Team as voted by the coaches. She also earned first-team All-East honors from D3hoops.com and was a WBCA/Kodak honorable mention All-American.

The 2003 Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Player of the Year, Hadwin led the conference in scoring (19.3 ppg), ranked second in field goal percentage (.510), third in free throw percentage (.798), and fourth in rebounding (8.5 rpg). She notched double figures in all 24 games this season, including a career-high 35 points on Jan. 18, against Hamilton.

One of just 11 Herons to score 1,000 points, Hadwin finished her career sixth on the scoring and rebounding list with 1,288 points and 644 boards. She also holds the William Smith record for free throws made in a season (138 in ’02-03) and in a career (396). A three-year starter she averaged 12.9 ppg and 6.4 rpg for her career.

During her four seasons, she helped William Smith to a 63-41 record and appearances in the NCAA Tournament (2000) and the ECAC Upstate Tournament (2002).
