Hadwin earns ECAC honor

GENEVA, N.Y.–The Eastern College Athletic Conference named William Smith College basketball player Laura Hadwin (Vestal/Vestal, N.Y.) the ECAC Upstate Division III Player of the Week. The junior's play helped the Herons to a 2-0 week and a 3-0 start to the 2001-02 campaign.

Hadwin scored a game-high 23 points in William Smith's season-opening 68-42 win at Cazenovia College on Nov. 20. She also grabbed six boards and recorded two steals. In the Herons' home-opening 104-71 victory over Manhattanville College on Nov. 25, the forward again led all scorers with 20 points. She recorded five steals, four rebounds, and two assists against the Valiants. Hadwin leads William Smith and the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association in points per game with 21.5. She is second in the league in field goal percentage with .607. Hadwin was also named the UCAA's Forward of the Week.

The Herons (3-0) host SUNY-Brockport on Nov. 30, at 6 p.m. William Smith defeated the Golden Eagles 72-58 in the teams' last meeting on Jan. 15, 1998.
