GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College senior Laura Hadwin (Vestal/Vestal, N.Y.) was recently named the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Basketball Player of Year. This is her second appearance on the UCAA first-team in as many seasons.

One of only 11 Herons to surpass the 1,000 point plateau, Hadwin averaged a team and conference-high 19.3 ppg, while pulling down a team-best 8.5 rebounds per game. Posting double-figures in points in every game this season, the senior forward recorded a season-high 35 points and 12 boards on Feb. 18, against Hamilton College. She scored 20 or more points 12 times this season, including six double-double performances.

Hadwin finishes her career with 1,288 points and 644 rebounds, placing her sixth on both all-time lists. A three-year starter, she holds the William Smith record for free throws made in a season (138 in ’02-03) and in a career (396). During her four seasons, she helped William Smith to a 63-41 record and appearances in the NCAA Tournament and the ECAC Upstate Tournament.

The Herons ended the season 9-15 overall and 4-10 in the UCAA, with nine of those losses coming by 10 points or less.
