Hellebush named UCAA Rookie of the Week

GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith first-year Anne Hellebush (Pittsford-Sutherland/Pittsford, N.Y.) was named the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week for the week ending Jan. 11. She averaged 15.5 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 2.5 apg, and 2.0 spg in a 1-1 week for the Herons.

At Nazareth, she scored a game-high 18 points, including a pair of three-pointers, while contributing six rebounds, three steals, and two assists in a 60-55 win. William Smith trailed the Golden Flyers by eight with 4:33 remaining in the first half, but the Herons outscored their hosts 13-0, including five points from Hellebush to take a five-point lead into the locker room, a lead the team did not yield in the second half.

At Fredonia, she scored 13 points, grabbed five boards, and handed out three assists in a six-point Heron loss.

In eight starts, Hellebush leads William Smith in scoring (12.5 ppg), three-point field goal percentage (.326), blocked shots (4), and minutes played (28.4). She ranks among the top-10 in the UCAA in free throw percentage (5th, .800), scoring (6th), three-point field goals made (7th, 35), and three-point field goal percentage (9th).

The Herons (4-4) will play their final non-conference tune up on Jan. 13, when they host the Buffalo State Bengals (4-6) at 7 p.m., in Bristol Gym. William Smith kicks off its UCAA circuit with a trip to Vassar on Jan. 16.
