GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith first-year guard Anne Hellebush (Pittsford-Sutherland/Pittsford, N.Y.) earned the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Year Award in a vote of the league’s coaches. The Herons’ leading scorer also earned a spot on the All-UCAA second-team, while classmate Ashley Rodger (Waterloo/Waterloo, N.Y.) received honorable mention.

Hellebush led the league’s rookies and ranked sixth overall in scoring, dropping in 11.3 points per contest. In a key conference road win over Hamilton, she shot 5-of-6 from three-point range, the highest single game three-point field goal percentage (.833) in the conference this season, and finished with a game-high 23 points.

A two-time UCAA Rookie of the Week, Rodger ranks second in the conference in rebounding (7.9 rpg), sixth in field goal percentage (.461), and ninth in free throw percentage (.688). The forward paces the Herons in field goal percentage, free throws made (53), and rebounding, while ranking second in field goals made (82) and third in scoring (9.2 ppg). Rodger posted four double doubles this season and scored a career-high 18 points in the season finale at St. Lawrence. She grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds in her William Smith debut at Cazenovia.

William Smith finished the regular season with a 13-11 record, including an 8-6 mark in the UCAA. The Herons are the fourth seed in the UCAA Tournament, which begins tomorrow. William Smith will tangle with top-seeded Union, in Schenectady, at 8 p.m.
