Herons win exhibition, 71-55

GENEVA, N.Y.–The William Smith College basketball team made its Bristol Gym debut this season with a 71-55 exhibition victory over visiting Niagara College of Canada. Junior forward Laura Hadwin (Vestal/Vestal, N.Y.) led the Herons with a double-double effort, scoring 17 points and grabbing 16 rebounds.

William Smith also got a double digit effort from sophomore forward Kaleen Goodman (Corning East/Painted Post, N.Y.), who finished with 15 points. Senior guard Jeanne Vinchiarello (Our Lady of Lourdes/Dover Plains, N.Y.) chipped in nine points and a team-high six assists.

Geneva native, first-year Tracey Genovese (Geneva/Geneva, NY) was perfect from the floor in her collegiate debut, scoring five points on 2-of-2 shooting, including a three-pointer.

William Smith led by 11 at halftime, 38-27, and by as many as 26 during the second half. The Herons outrebounded the Knights 44-30.

William Smith opens its regular season schedule on Nov. 20, at Cazenovia. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
