Herons complete 1st day at State Championships

WHITNEY POINT, N.Y.--The William Smith College crew completed its first day of competition at the New York State Championships. The varsity eight finished third in its opening day heat, while the novice eight took second in its heat.
The varsity eight finished behind Fordham and Marist in its heat, recording a time of 7:07.5, 6.1 seconds behind the Rams. The Herons will compete in Sunday's varsity eight petite final.
The novice eight took second in its first heat, trailing only St. Lawrence, to earn a spot in tomorrow's grand final. William Smith posted a time of 7:28.3, 4.1 second back of the Saints.
