Chu named to review panel

August 17, 2005

Sandra Chu

GENEVA, N.Y.--Sandra Chu, head coach of the William Smith crew team, has been selected to serve on a panel of reviwers in Elle Magazine's prestigious 2006 Lettres Prize.

She and others will read, review and judge Joyce Carol Oates' "Missing Mom;" Louise Erdrich's "The Painted Drum;" and Joanna Briscoe's "Sleep With Me," all of which are in pre-publication.

A winner of best book will be chosen by Chu and other jurors and results published in November.

The Elle Lettres Grand Prix has been awarded to a book of fiction and a book of non-fiction since 2000, and Chu also served on the first panel of jurors.

In total, 36 books selected by the magazine compete for the annual honor in the categories of fiction and non-fiction.

Chu has been on the panel of fiction judges in 2000, 2002, 2004 and 2006, the maximum number allowed.

A published poet, she has consulted with PBS on the Language of Life poetry curriculum. She is a graduate from Princeton University and holds a master's in English from New York University.
