Priest named CRCA All-American
June 1, 2005
GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith junior Cassie Priest (King & Low-Heywood Thomas/Stamford, Conn.) recently was named to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Pocock All-America second-team. She is the 10th Heron rower to earn All-American honors since 2000.
“Competition for a berth on the All-America team was very stiff this year, and Cassie stood out among the very best rowers in the country,” William Smith Head Coach Sandra Chu said. “Having coached her since 2002, I’ve come to respect her athleticism and commitment to the team. I’m very proud that she represents William Smith on this prestigious team.”
A team captain, Priest rowed in the sixth seat in the varsity eight this season. She is one of the strongest and fastest rowers on the team. Priest sports a 7:31 2,000-meter erg score. Last season, she also rowed in the varsity eight, helping the Herons capture the inaugural Liberty League Championship, while earning Liberty League Crew of the Year honors.
William Smith crew finished the season ranked 13th in the nation and second in New York State. The defending Liberty League Champion Herons saw the 2005 conference and ECAC championships wiped out by Mother Nature. However, three of William Smith’s four entries in the New York State Championships finished in the top four, including the gold medal winning novice four.
