Heron novice eight earns Liberty League award

GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith crew team captured the Liberty League’s first Boat of the Week award of the spring season. The Heron novice eight earned the award after winning both of their first two races this season.
On March 26, the novice eight overcame two collisions to win a shortened race over the University of Rochester and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. William Smith held its composure to win the 1,600-meter race with a time of 5:54.0. The Yellowjackets crossed the line next in 6:06.0.
Seven days later, the Herons captured William Smith’s lone victory of the day, dominating Ithaca and Division I Marist colleges. The Herons’ finished 31 seconds ahead of the Red Foxes and trounced the Bombers by 39.6 seconds.
First-years Julie Kozarsky (Shawnee/Medford, N.J.), Lucinda Keck (Lawrenceville School/Princeton, N.J.), Jess Wojslaw (Norwalk/Norwalk, Conn.), Courtney Cioffredi (Lebanon/Lebanon, N.H.), Megan Seiter (Providence Country Day/Riverside, R.I.), Jenn Kirst (The Principia Upper School/Darien, Conn.), Jenn Lever (Edward Little/Auburn, Maine), Cate Elgert (Bow/Bow, N.H.), and Whitney Hayre (Sherwood/Olney, Md.) covered the 2-kilometer course in a time of 7:52.0.
The Herons are back on the water on April 16, when they race Skidmore and Middlebury at Skidmore, and on April 17, when they compete against RPI, RIT, WPI and Tufts in Worcester, Mass.
