Heron crew competes in Ithaca

ITHACA, N.Y.—The William Smith crew team enjoyed a productive day of racing against high-caliber opponents Ithaca, Marist, and the club team from Ohio State.

The Heron varsity eight of Kenzie Cannon, Hannah Gallup, Jessica Mahon, Kathryn Priest, Nicole Balsamo, Rebecca Gutwin, Kerry O’Neill, Edwina Wilson, and Frances Parsons lowered its 2,000-meter time over last weekend by two seconds in the morning heat. The Herons covered the course in 7:13.1, seven seconds behing the defending national champion Bombers. In the afternoon's petite final, William Smith finish second behind Division I Marist.

Racing in the afternoon only, the second varsity eight of Julie Kozarsky, Alex Haack, Susan K. Tarrant, Jenn Kirst, Christa Hibbard, Lucinda Keck, Jessica Wojslaw, Alexandra Bowers, and Michelle Dodge placed second in a time of 7:37.0, 13 second behind the Bombers, but well ahead of the Red Foxes.

William Smith's novice eight showed great improvement from the morning race to the afternoon. Caitlin Holtz, Anne Wakeman, Hannah Zale, Alice Bellone, Emily Maguire, Becky Gosse, Emily Helstowski, Allison Glueck, and Katherine Faherty dropped nearly four seconds from their time, finishing second to Marist in 8:12.9.

Following an off weekend, the Herons return to action on April 15, when they host RIT.
