Herons maintain strangle hold on weekly award

GENEVA, N.Y.—The gold medal winning William Smith second varsity eight was named the Liberty League Co-Boat of the Week by the conference office this afternoon. It’s the fifth time in six weeks the Herons have earned at least a share of the award.

At the New York State Rowing Championships, sophomore Julie Kozarsky (Shawnee/Medford, N.J.), senior Cassie Priest (King & Low-Heywood Thomas/Stamford, Conn.), junior Michelle Dodge (St. Paul’s School/Jackson, N.H.), sophomore Lucinda Keck (The Lawrenceville School/Princeton, N.J.), sophomore Jess Wojslaw (Norwalk/Norwalk, Conn.), first-year Anne Wakeman (Lawrence Academy/Marlboro, Mass.), senior Susie Tarrant (Kimball Union Academy/Cleverdale, N.Y.), first-year Alexandra Bowers (Tabor Academy/East Sandwich, Mass.), and first-year Emily Maguire (Miss Porter’s School/Madison, Conn.) enjoyed an open-water victory in the grand final over runner-up Ithaca B. William Smith crossed the line in 7:06.8, nearly nine seconds ahead of the Bombers.

The Herons are back on the water on May 13-14 in the ECAC Championships in Worcester, Mass.
