Herons win 4th Boat of the Week award

GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith varsity eight was named the Liberty League Women’s Crew Boat of the Week today by the conference office. The Herons, who have been named the Boat of the Week four times this season, won the grand final of the Liberty League Championships on Saturday, helping the team capture its second consecutive conference title.
First-year Kenzie Cannon (Berkshire/Canaan, Conn.), senior Rebecca Gutwin (Champlain Valley Union/Williston, Vt.), senior Frances Parsons (Hoosac School/Liverpool, N.Y.), sophomore Hannah Gallup (Holy Names/Alameda, Calif.), sophomore Jessica Mahon (Rhinebeck/Rhinebeck, N.Y.), senior Cassie Priest (King & Low-Heywood Thomas/Stamford, Conn.), junior Nicole Balsamo (Newton Country Day/Centerville, Mass.), senior Edwina Wilson (Churchill/Westport, Conn.), and first-year Kerry O’Neill (Brighton/Rochester, N.Y.) covered the 2,000-meter course in 6:53.92, more than seven seconds ahead of second place Vassar. For the victory, the Herons earned 12 points in the championship standings, their margin of victory over runner-up Skidmore.
William Smith is back on the water, May 6-7 in the New York State Championship in Whitney Point.
