Liberty League tabs Heron crew again
October 16, 2006
GENEVA, N.Y.—For the third week in a row, the William Smith College crew team earned the Liberty League Boat of the Week award. This week, the varsity 8+ earned a share of the award after winning it outright last week. The Heron novice 8+ won the first Boat of the Week award of the season.
In the inaugural HWS Challenge on the Canal, the William Smith varsity 8+ led from the first stroke and never looked back. Senior Nicole Balsamo (Newton Country Day/Centerville, Mass.), senior Lauren Brady (Westover School/Ridgefield, Conn.), junior Hannah Gallup (Holy Names/Alameda, Calif.), junior Lucinda Keck (The Lawrenceville School/Pennington, N.J.), junior Jenn Kirst (Principia/Darien, Conn.), junior Julie Kozarsky (Shawnee/Medford, N.J.), junior Jessica Mahon (Rhinebeck/Rhinebeck, N.Y.), sophomore Kerry O’Neill (Brighton/Rochester, N.Y.), and sophomore Anne Wakeman (Lawrence Academy/Marlboro, Mass.) crossed the finish line 41 seconds ahead of their nearest competition, posting a winning time of 16:30. Liberty League rival Hamilton was a distant second in 17:11.
The Herons return to the water on Oct. 21-22, in the prestigious Head of the Charles in Boston.
