No. 10 Herons grab another weekly award

GENEVA, N.Y.—For the third time in four weeks, the William Smith varsity eight was named the Liberty League Women’s Crew Boat of the Week. The Herons are ranked 10th the latest Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association/US Rowing poll.
On Saturday in Saratoga Springs, the Heron varsity eight executed an aggressive race plan, covering the 2,000-meter course in a winning time of 7:16.06. The University of Vermont finished second, more than four seconds back. Skidmore was third, followed by Middlebury. On Sunday, William Smith’s top eight turned in a third place showing out of five teams. Fourth-ranked Tufts took home top honors with a time of 6:51.08, while William Smith crossed the finish line at 7:02.62.
The Heron varsity eight consisted of first-year Kenzie Cannon (Berkshire/Canaan, Conn.), senior Rebecca Gutwin (Champlain Valley Union/Williston, Vt.), senior Frances Parsons (Hoosac School/Liverpool, N.Y.), senior Cassie Priest (King & Low-Heywood Thomas/Stamford, Conn.), sophomore Jess Mahon (Rhinebeck/Rhinebeck, N.Y.), senior Edwina Wilson (Churchill/Westport, Conn.), junior Nicole Balsamo (Newton Country Day/Centerville, Mass.), sophomore Jenn Kirst (Principia/Darien, Conn.), and first-year Kerry O’Neill (Brighton/Rochester, N.Y.).
William Smith is back on the water on April 29 in Saratoga Springs, for the Liberty League Championships.
