GENEVA, N.Y.—Three William Smith College student-athletes were named to the 2007 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association National Scholar-Athlete team. Seniors Michelle Dodge (St. Paul’s School/Jackson, N.H.) and Kathryn Loddengaard (Hampton Bay/Hampton Bay, N.Y.) and junior Cristina Mulcahy (St. Michael’s/Santa Fe, N.M.) were honored for their athletic and academic excellence.
Dodge is a member of the Heron varsity eight, while Loddengaard and Mulcahy row in the second varsity eight. William Smith is ranked first as a varsity eight and as a team in the New York Region by the NCAA Championship committee.
An environmental studies and English double major, Dodge is a three-time Liberty League All-Academic selection. She has been a part of six Liberty League Boats of the Week this season, including the gold medal winning varsity eights at the Liberty League and New York State championships.
An environmental studies and geoscience double major, Loddengaard is also a three-time Liberty League All-Academic pick. Mulcahy is a political science major and a two-time Liberty League All-Academic honoree. Together, they helped the second varsity eight to strong wins over Skidmore on April 21 and Ithaca on March 31.
During the fall season, all three pulled the second varsity eight to victory at the Head of the Fish. The Herons enjoyed an open-water victory over the rest of the seven-boat field. They were rewarded with the Liberty League Boat of the Week award.
To be named a CRCA National Scholar-Athlete, student-athletes must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5, must have completed one academic year, and must compete in the varsity boat in at least 75 percent of the spring’s races.
William Smith will row for the NCAA Division III National Championships on May 25-26 in Oakridge, Tenn. Fans can watch the championships online.
