GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College rower Michelle Dodge (St. Paul’s School/Jackson, N.H.) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Women’s At-Large Academic All-District first team today. She graduated earlier this month with a bachelor’s degree summa cum laude in environmental studies and English.

Dodge is a three-time Liberty League All-Academic selection and was named a 2007 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete. She is also a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

On the water, Dodge has been a part of six Liberty League Boats of the Week this season, including the gold medal winning varsity eights at the Liberty League and New York State championships. During the fall season, Dodge was a member of the second varsity eight that won the Head of the Fish.

Dodge and her teammate will begin their quest for an NCAA Division III Championship tomorrow in Oakridge, Tenn. Racing gets underway at 8:45 a.m. William Smith is making its sixth NCAA appearance and first since 2002.

To earn a place on the Academic All-District teams, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum 3.2 cumulative grade point average, be a starter or significant reserve, and be at least a sophomore in academic standing. The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) select eight Academic All-District teams and choose the Academic All-America teams from the eight District first-teams.

CoSIDA selects Academic All-America teams in 12 programs: football, women’s volleyball, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, baseball, softball, men’s track & field/cross country, women’s track & field/cross country, men’s at-large, and women’s at-large. A first-team and second-team are selected in both the University (Division I and I-AA) and College (Division II, III and NAIA) Divisions.
