GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith varsity eight, ranked eighth in the nation in the latest CRCA/USRowing Coaches Poll, was named the Liberty League Women’s Crew Boat of the Week after posting an impressive win at second-ranked Ithaca on Saturday.

The Bombers had William Smith’s number over the past five seasons, but the Herons turned the tables on the final day of March. Sophomore Kenzie Cannon (Berkshire/Canaan, Conn.), junior Hannah Gallup (Holy Names/Alameda, Calif.), senior Nicole Balsamo (Newton Country Day/Centerville, Mass.), sophomore Anne Wakeman (Lawrence Academy/Marlboro, Mass.), senior Lauren Brady (Westover School/Ridgefield, Conn.), sophomore Christa Hibbard (Fairport/Fairport, N.Y.), sophomore Kerry O’Neill (Brighton/Rochester, N.Y.), junior Lucinda Keck (The Lawrenceville School/Pennington, N.J.), and senior Michelle Dodge (St. Paul’s School/Jackson, N.H.) powered William Smith over the 2,000-meter course in 7:21.6. The Bombers crossed the line more than four seconds later in 7:26.1.

The Herons also raced fourth-ranked Trinity later in the day, trailing the Bantams through rough conditions by 10 seconds.

William Smith is back on the water when the Herons host Dowling and Grand Valley State on April 7.
