Heron V8+ tabbed Boat of the Week

GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College crew team’s varsity eight earned its fourth Liberty League Boat of the Week award of the season this afternoon.
The Heron varsity eight enjoyed open-water victories over Middlebury, Skidmore, Tufts, Rensselaer, RIT, Washington (Md.), and WPI over the weekend. On Saturday, William Smith bested Skidmore, Middlebury, and RPI, covering the 2,000-meter course in seven minutes and 10 seconds, more than 20 seconds ahead of the runner-up Thoroughbreds. On Sunday, the Herons, ranked third in the nation, posted a winning time of 6:52.5, more than seven seconds ahead of sixth-ranked Tufts.
Sophomore Kenzie Cannon (Berkshire/Canaan, Conn.), junior Hannah Gallup (Holy Names/Alameda, Calif.), senior Nicole Balsamo (Newton Country Day/Centerville, Mass.), sophomore Anne Wakeman (Lawrence Academy/Marlboro, Mass.), senior Lauren Brady (Westover School/Ridgefield, Conn.), junior Lucinda Keck (The Lawrenceville School/Pennington, N.J.), sophomore Kerry O'Neill (Brighton/Rochester, N.Y.), junior Jenn Kirst (Principia/Darien, Conn.), and senior Michelle Dodge (St. Paul’s School/Jackson, N.H.) powered the varsity eight this weekend.
William Smith will be back on the water on April 28 when it travels to Canton, N.Y., for the Liberty League Championships beginning at 8 a.m.
