Heron crew enjoys open water wins

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The William Smith crew put together three impressive wins today on Fish Creek.
The Heron varsity eight enjoyed an easy, open-water victory over Skidmore, Middlebury, and Rensselaer. Kenzie Cannon, Hannah Gallup, Nicole Balsamo, Anne Wakeman, Lauren Brady, Lucinda Keck, Kerry O’Neill, Jenn Kirst, and Michelle Dodge covered the 2,000-meter course in 7:10.0, more than 20 seconds ahead of the runner-up Thoroughbreds.
William Smith's second varsity eight also posted an open-water win as Julie Kozarsky, Christa Hibbard, Jessica Wojslaw, Alexnadra Bowers, Emily Maguire, Kathryn Loddengaard, Cristina Mulcahy, Becky Gosse, and Katherine Faherty crossed the line over 15 seconds ahead of Skidmore, posting a winning time of 7:41.9.
The Heron novice eight of Abbie DiPalma, Jamie Billington, Kristin Yerkie, Kirsten Cooper, Meghan Cox, Laura Valdmanis, Patricia Stacey, Catherine Patterson, and Mianna Molinari enjoyed the largest margin of victory of the day. William Smith bested Rensselaer by more than 46 seconds and Middlebury by more than 55 seconds. The official winning time was not available.
William Smith is back on the water on April 22, when they travel to Worcester, Mass., for a day of racing against WPI, RIT, Tufts, and Washington College.
