Heron crew ranked 3rd nationally, 1st in NYS

GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College crew team has steadily climbed in the rankings this spring. This week, the Herons’ varsity eight is ranked third in the nation by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA), and first in the New York State Region by the NCAA. The William Smith team is ranked first overall in the region as well.
The William Smith varsity eight has won three of its four races this spring, including a recent upset of No. 2 Ithaca. The Herons edged the Bombers by more than four seconds, earning the Liberty League Boat of the Week award for their efforts.
The Heron varsity eight is powered by Kenzie Cannon (Berkshire/Canaan, Conn.), Hannah Gallup (Holy Names/Alameda, Calif.), Nicole Balsamo (Newton Country Day/Centerville, Mass.), Anne Wakeman (Lawrence Academy/Marlboro, Mass.), Lauren Brady (Westover School/Ridgefield, Conn.), Christa Hibbard (Fairport/Fairport, N.Y.), Kerry O’Neill (Brighton/Rochester, N.Y.), Jennifer Kirst (Principia/Darien, Conn.), and Michelle Dodge (St. Paul’s School/Jackson, N.H.).
Joining William Smith as the country’s top teams are No. 1 Williams and No. 2 Trinity.
The Herons will be in action tomorrow, April 14, at Bucknell. Racing begins at 8 a.m.
