Heron crew wins Boat of the Week award

GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College crew team’s varsity eight was honored by the Liberty League this afternoon. The Herons were tabbed the Co-Boat of the Week after winning the Grand Final at the Liberty League Championships over the weekend.
Led by the varsity eight, the Herons took home their third Liberty League title on Saturday. Powered by sophomore Kenzie Cannon (Berkshire/Canaan, Conn.), junior Hannah Gallup (Holy Names/Alameda, Calif.), senior Nicole Balsamo (Newton Country Day/Centerville, Mass.), sophomore Anne Wakeman (Lawrence Academy/Marlboro, Mass.), senior Lauren Brady (Westover School/Ridgefield, Conn.), junior Lucinda Keck (The Lawrenceville School/Pennington, N.J.), sophomore Kerry O'Neill (Brighton/Rochester, N.Y.), junior Jenn Kirst (Principia/Darien, Conn.), and senior Michelle Dodge (St. Paul’s School/Jackson, N.H.), the varsity eight bested five other boats, including second-place Skidmore, in a time of six minutes, seven seconds. The Thoroughbreds finished over 11 seconds behind the Herons in the final race.
William Smith will be back on the water at the New York State Championships on May 5-6. The racing will be held at Whitney Points, N.Y. and begins at noon on Saturday.
