Heron crew wins Petite Final at Avaya Collegiate Championships

WEST WINDSOR, N.J.--The William Smith College varsity-eight captured the Petite Final and finished seventh overall at the PIRA Regatta/Avaya Collegiate Rowing Championships this weekend. The Herons finished third in their first race with a time of 6:39.18, earning a spot in the Petite Final. They capped their weekend with a winning time of 7:07.61, three seconds in front of runner up Wesleyan. William Smith rowed to a time of 8:28.16 in the varsity-four Petite Final, finishing fifth.

The Herons close their season at the inaugural NCAA Division III Women's Rowing Championship in Indianapolis, Ind. on May 30-June 1. The championship is comprised of six teams, and each team is required to field two boats of eight rowers and a coxswain. Joining the Herons will be crews from Colby College, Ithaca College, Pacific Lutheran University, Smith College, and Williams College.
