Heron crew wins NYS petite final

WHITNEY POINT, N.Y.--The William Smith varsity eight won this morning's petite final at the New York State Rowing Championships. The Heron novice eight finished fourth in its grand final.
The varsity eight finished third in its opening day heat to earn a spot in the petite final. William Smith won the petite final by four seconds over second place Binghamton. RIT, a boat that beat the Herons head-to-head during the regular season, finished third.
The novice eight placed second in its heat on Saturday to earn a place in the grand final. William Smith finished fourth in a time of 7:26.27. Ithaca won the novice eight grand final in 7:12.08.
