ROCHESTER, N.Y.–The William Smith crew competed in the annual Stonehurst Capital Invitational Regatta. In the heavyweight eights competition, the Herons placed eighth overall and fifth against collegiate crews. The William Smith heavyweight four finished 15th.

The heavyweight eight turned in a championship time of 34:38.25, more than five seconds ahead of Williams College, last season's top Division III crew. In fact, the only DIII crew to finish ahead of the Herons was Ithaca.

Junior coxswain Ellen Goodman (Pine Crest School/Pennington, N.J.), senior stroke Mary Reid (Amherst/Buffalo, N.Y.), sophomore Julie Deprez (Bancroft School/Paxton, Mass.), sophomore Ashley Bergland (St. Andrews School/Houston, Texas), sophomore Libby Weick (Fairport/Fairport, N.Y.), first-year Sarah Pomeroy (Simsbury/W. Simsbury, Conn.), sophomore Lauren Ulvestad (Breck School/Shorewood, Minn.), sophomore Lexie Kuser (Peddie School/Bordentown, N.J.), and senior Melissa Park (North Warren Regional/Blairstown, N.J.) competed for the Herons in the eight.
