William Smith places 4 on All-Academic Team

GENEVA, N.Y.—Four runners on the William Smith cross country team earned a spot on the Liberty League All-Academic Team this season. Senior Kate Chabot (Keene/Keene, N.Y.), senior Amanda Condello (Irondequoit/Rochester, N.Y.), junior Leanne Roncolato (Meadville/Meadville, Pa.), and junior Jennifer Strong (Honeoye/Honeoye, N.Y.) represented the Herons for their academic and athletic success.

On Oct. 22, Chabot turned in her season’s best 5-kilometer time of 20:28.3 at the Saratoga Invitational, clipping 54 second off her previous time. At 6k, she ran her best time of the season, 24:58, at the ECAC Championship meet. Chabot is majoring in biology.

Condello ran her fastest 5k time of the season (22:03.5) at the Saratoga Invitational. On Sept. 17, she logged her best 6k of the season, covering the Hobart Invitational course in a time of 30:16. She is a psychology major.

Roncolato has paced Herons in all eight races she has run this season. She recorded a time of 19:22.9 at 5k in the Saratoga Invitational, placing 26th out of 126 runners. In the Liberty League Championship meet, Roncolato finished eight overall, earning second-team All-Liberty League honors, in a 6k time of 24:33. She has placed in the top 10 in three meets this season, including a second place finish in the inaugural CCOC Championships on Oct. 29. Roncolato is majoring in economics.

At the Saratoga Invitational, Strong was the second Heron to cross the finish line, recording a season’s best time of 19:51.7. At the Hobart Invitational, she finished seventh with a time of 25:28. Strong’s top finish came in the CCOC Championships, when she placed fourth out of 33 runners. She is a biology major.

Student-athletes from the Liberty League earned a place on the team based on the following criteria: at least a sophomore academic standing and a minimum 3.2 cumulative grade point average.

William Smith will run in the NCAA Regional Championships on Nov. 12 at 11 a.m. at the University of Rochester.
