Heron harriers once again among nation’s smartest

March 22, 2005

GENEVA, N.Y.—For the 12th consecutive year, the William Smith cross country team was named an NCAA Division III Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Squad. The Herons posted a 3.44 team grade point average, the highest in the Liberty League and 46th out of 377 Division III women’s teams.

Four out of the team’s seven runners were named to the Liberty League All-Academic Squad, including Leanne Roncolato (Meadville/Meadville, Pa.). The sophomore led William Smith across the finish line in all 10 races in 2004. Roncolato ran her season’s best race on Nov. 13, in the ECAC Championships in Groton, Mass., covering the 6-kilometer course in 24:51.

To be named an NCAA Division III Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Squad, a team must earn a combined team GPA of 3.0 or higher.
