Warner elected to Niagara Track & Field Hall of Fame

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Niagara Association of USA Track & Field recently announced that William Smith College Cross Country Head Coach Jack Warner was selected for induction into the Niagara Track & Field Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2004.
Prior to joining the Herons’ staff in 1995, Warner spent 23 years (1967-1990) as the track & field and cross country coach at Cornell University, where he coached five Olympians, 24 NCAA All-Americans, 38 All-East, 12 IC4A and ECAC, and 91 Heptagonal Champions. He helped guide the men’s team to four Heptagonal titles and served as the President of the IC4A Coaches Association as well as the Heptagonal Coaches Association.
The founder and organizer of the NCAA Division I Track Coaches Association, Warner was named the NCAA District II Men’s Track and Field Coach of the Year in 1978 and, in 1983, the District II Women’s Cross Country Co-Coach of the Year.
While at William Smith Warner has directed the steady improvement of the Herons, who have finished as high as eighth at the ECAC Championship meet and 14th at the NCAA Regional Championship meet. In 2000, the Herons had their first runner reach the national championship meet, Amy Young ’03, finished 33rd, earning All-American honors. She reached the national stage once more before completing her degree.
