GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College cross country team was named a 2005 U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic squad for the 13th straight year. The Herons recorded a 3.47 team grade point average, ranking 43rd out of 108 Division III teams.
For the past 11 seasons, William Smith has been under the direction of USTFCCCA Hall of Famer Jack Warner. Four of his student-athletes were named to the 2005 Liberty League Women’s Cross Country All-Academic Team, including junior Leanne Roncolato (Meadville/Meadville, Pa.). The All-Liberty League second-team selection crossed the finish line first for the Herons in all nine races she entered. On Oct. 1, Roncolato turned in her best race of the season at the Liberty League Championships, covering the 6-kilometer course in 24:27.0, placing 14th out of 65 runners.
To be named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic squad, a team must earn a combined GPA of 3.0 or higher.
