GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College cross country team was recently recognized nationally by the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for its outstanding academic achievements as a team.

The Herons were named to the 2006 NCAA Division III Women’s All-Academic Team for the 14th straight year. The harriers combined for a cumulative grade point average of 3.529, placing them 23rd out of the 113 schools on the list. William Smith shares the 23rd-highest team GPA with Messiah College.

Sitting atop the list with the highest combined GPAs are squads from Eastern Mennonite University (3.76), Mount Union College (3.703), and Hope College (3.70).

The Herons have earned All-Academic accolades every year since the program was founded in 1993. To earn the award, a team must achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.1 or higher.
