Clarkson women capture Heron Invitational

GENEVA, N.Y.—Clarkson University grabbed five of the top ten spots to capture the Heron Invitational title in women’s cross country action this morning on the Seneca Lake State Park course with a low score of 31 points. William Smith earned the runner-up spot in the five-team race, totaling 43 points. Potsdam’s Jodie Schoppmann (Island Trees/Levittown, N.Y.) earned the individual title with a 6k time of 23:23.

The Golden Knights were paced by the second and fourth place finishes of Marianna Worczak (Immaculate Academy/Eden, N.Y.) and Kirsten Schillemat (Keene/Nelson, N.Y.).

Senior Rachel Kaplan (Pingree School/Newbury, Mass.) led the way for the Herons, covering the 3.7 miles in 24:22 for fifth place. Junior Molly Rider (Concord/Concord, N.H.) was right on her heels, finishing just six seconds later.

First-year Leanne Roncolato (Meadville/Meadville, Pa.) posted her best 6k time this season, coming in ninth place with a time of 24:52. Fellow classmates Jen Strong (Honeyoe/Honeyoe, N.Y.) and Emily Gordon (Grosse Pointe South/Ithaca, N.Y.) rounded out the top five runners for William Smith, finishing the race in 25:23 and 25:49, respectively.

The Herons will travel to Grafton, Mass. next for the ECAC Championship race on Nov. 8.
