William Smith competes at Daniel Walker Memorial Invite

BUFFALO, N.Y.—The William Smith College cross country team competed in the Daniel Walker Memorial Invitational at Buffalo State College this past weekend. The Herons finished ninth of 12 teams, with Edinboro and Geneseo taking the top two spots.

First-year Karen Thorp (Yarmouth/Yarmouth, Maine) was the top finisher for William Smith, completing the 5k course in 21:02 for 49th of 145 runners. Junior Molly Rider (Concord/Concord, N.H.) came in just behind her with a time of 21:22, while senior Rachel Kaplan (Pingree School/Newbury, Mass.) and first-year Francesca Bruno (Academy of Holy Names/East Greenbush, N.Y.) paced each other, crossing the line in 21:56 and 22:04, respectively.

Rounding out the top five for the Herons was first-year Jennifer Strong (Honeoye/Honeyoe, N.Y.) turning in a time of 22:14.

The Herons return to action on Sept. 13, when they travel to the Oswego State Invitational. The gun is scheduled to go off at noon.
