Young, William Smith win Heron Invitational

GENEVA, N.Y.-- The William Smith College Cross Country team captured its fifth straight Heron Invitational, while Clarkson University won the men's race. William Smith junior Amy Young (Hugh C. Williams/Canton, N.Y.) won her third straight race and sixth of the season with a 5k time of 18:29. SUNY-Potsdam's Aaron Robertson won the men's race with an 8k time of 27:23. Hobart College senior Steve Chabot (Keene/Keene, N.H.) led the Statesmen to a second place finish, running a season-best time of 27:44. Chabot finished third overall.

In the women's race, Daemen College's Kim Hitchcock grabbed the second spot with a time of 19:53. William Smith first-year Molly Rider (Concord/Concord, N.H.) was third, posting a time of 20:02, while Potsdam's Jessica Mattoon and Daemen's Michelle Bloom rounded out the top five with times of 20:15 and 20:23, respectively.

William Smith finished with a score of 26 points. The Herons were followed by Potsdam (52), Daemen (60), Castleton State (93), Clarkson (incomplete), and Hilbert College (incomplete).

In the men's race, Clarkson's Eric Metzler finished in 27 minutes and 34 seconds for second place, while fellow Golden Knights Brian Lawrey (27:53) and Mike Ott (27:58) captured the fourth and fifth spots. Hobart senior Justin Siuta (Niagara-Wheatfield/N. Tonawanda, N.Y.) was the Statesmen's second best runner on the day. Siuta finished ninth with a season-best 29:04.

Clarkson posted a score of 26 and was followed by Hobart (50), Daemen (70), Potsdam (75) and Castleton (incomplete).
