Rider leads Herons at UCAA Championships

GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College cross country team traveled to St. Lawrence University this weekend to compete in the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Championships. The Herons finished the day in sixth place out of seven teams. The St. Lawrence Saints captured the women’s title, scoring a low 40 points. Alyson Grant (Scarborough/Scarborough, Maine) of Hamilton College broke the tape with a time of 23:25.

Sophomore Molly Rider (Concord/Concord, N.H.) led the way for the Herons with a 6k time of 24:49, for 15th place out of 72 runners. Sophomore Jennifer Davenport (G. Ray Bodley/Fulton, N.Y.) crossed the line next for William Smith in 31st place with a time of 25:56. First-year Kathryn Chabot (Keene/Keene, N.H.) and senior Carolyn Suss (Horseheads/Pine Valley, N.Y.) paced each other throughout, finishing in 26:09 and 26:11, respectively. Rounding out the top five William Smith harriers was first-year Karilea Gallow (Groton/Groton, N.Y.) completing the course in 27:40.

The William Smith cross country team will run again on Oct. 19, at the Roberts Wesleyan Invitational.
