Suss leads Herons at Union Invitational

GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College cross country team competed in the Union Invitational this past weekend in Schenectady, N.Y. Fighting the wind and rain, the Herons finished the day in eighth place of 12 teams.

Leading the pack for William Smith was sophomore Molly Rider (Concord/Concord, N.H.) with a 31st place finish out of 137 runners. Fighting the wind and cold, Rider completed the 5k course in 19:52, her fastest time this season. Sophomore Jennifer Davenport (G. Ray Bodley/Fulton, N.Y.) crossed the finish line next for the Herons with a time of 20:37. Pacing each other in a small pack, three William Smith harriers finished within 17 seconds of each other. Senior Carolyn Suss (Horseheads/Pine Valley, N.Y.) and first-years Kathryn Chabot (Keene/Keene, N.H.) and Breanna Greene (Hugh C. Williams/Canton, N.Y.) finished the day with times of 21:04, 21:17, and 21:21, respectively. First-years Karilea Gallow (Groton/Groton, N.Y.) and Amanda Condello (Irondequoit/Rochester, N.Y.) ran together throughout the three miles, running respective times of 22:02.0 and 22:02.5. Rounding out the Heron runners were junior Emily LaDuca (Mt. Mercy Academy/Hamburg, N.Y.) and sophomore Claudia Offray (Kent Place School/Gillette, N.J.), finishing the race in 22:54 and 23:21, respectively.

William Smith will host the annual Heron Invitational on Nov. 2. The runners will begin at 11 a.m.
