GENEVA—William Smith played host to the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Cross Country Championships this afternoon. The Herons finished fifth in the six-team field.

First-year Karen Thorp (Yarmouth, Maine) set the pace for the Herons, finishing 11th overall. She covered the 6-kilometer course in 24:37. First-year Jennifer Strong (Honeoye, N.Y.) was the second William Smith harrier across the line, placing 25th in 25:42.

The women’s race was plagued by a cold, persistent rain that left footing trecherous in spots of the course, which transversed the Hobart and William Smith campus.
