Roberts Wesleyan women, Buff State men capture HWS Invite; William Smith's Young sets course record

GENEVA, N.Y.-- The Roberts Wesleyan College women's and Buffalo State College men's cross country teams captured their respective races at the Hobart and William Smith Invitational. William Smith junior Amy Young (Hugh C. Williams/Canton, N.Y.) won her second race in as many weeks, breaking her own course 5k record by three seconds, with a time of 18:23. Roberts Wesleyan's Jeremy Smith won the men's race with an 8k time of 27:22.

In the women's race, Roberts Wesleyan grabbed the three spots behind Young. Kim Cipura (19:06), Elizabeth Reed (19:25), Laurel Reed (19:34), and Houghton College's Katye Sykes (20:08) rounded out the top five.

Roberts Wesleyan finished with a score of 30 points, followed by Houghton (50), Buff State (90), SUNY-Geneseo (90), William Smith (92), Clarkson University (151), Keuka College (204), and Alfred (incomplete).

In the men's race, Buffalo State's Jason Walsh (27:34) and Joe Neizgoda (27:53) finished second and third, respectively. Roberts Wesleyan's Jeff Arnold (27:55) and Buff State's Tom Proctor completed the top five. Hobart senior Stephen Chabot (Keene/Keene, N.H.) was the Statesmen's top finisher, placing 12th with a time of 28:49.

Buffalo State finished with 40 points, followed by Roberts Wesleyan (62), Geneseo (85), Houghton (101), Alfred (105), Clarkson (141), Hobart (172), and Keuka (212).
