Young wins, Herons 2nd at Houghton

HOUGHTON, N.Y.-- Junior Amy Young (Hugh C. Williams/Canton, N.Y.) captured her third win of the season with a 5k time of 19:23 at the Houghton College Invitational. William Smith posted its highest finish of the season, placing second in the nine-team field.

First-year Molly Rider (Concord/Concord, N.H.) finished fifth with a time of 21:30. First-year Breanna Greene (Hugh C. Williams/Canton, N.Y.) was 13th running a time of 22:49. First-year Jennifer Davenport (Ray Bodley/Fulton, N.Y.) was the Herons next finisher with a time of 23:17. Sophomore Emily LaDuca (Mt. Mercy Academy/Hamburg, N.Y.) followed Davenport with a time of 23:25. Seniors Kerry Gannaway (Moses Brown/Providence, R.I.) and Kelly Hutchinson (Lawrenceville School/Jobstown, N.J.) and recorded times of 23:22 and 24:21, respectively.

The Herons are back in action Sept. 29, when they travel to the UCAA Championships. William Smith finished fifth at the Championships last year.
