GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith junior Sophie Dennis (Dana L. West/Port Byron, N.Y.) was named the Liberty League Field Hockey Offensive Performer of the Week by the conference office this afternoon. It’s the third time this season the Herons’ leading scorer has earned the award.

Dennis scored three goals and assisted on a fourth in a 3-0 week for the Herons. None of her team-leading 12 goals this season have been as dramatic as her first goal this week. Tied 2-2 in overtime against Ithaca, Dennis scored on a penalty stroke in the 78th minute to lift the Herons to victory. While she was held scoreless in a 2-1 win over fourth-ranked Skidmore on Friday, Dennis rebounded with two goals and an assist in a 5-2 triumph over Union. The scoring burst moved her into fourth place on the career points list (124) and fourth place on the career goals lists (51). She is one of only four Herons to score 50 or more career goals.

Dennis leads the Liberty League in points (34), points per game (2.83), assists (10), and assists per game (0.83).

William Smith (10-1) was ranked ninth in last week’s STX/NFHCA Coaches Poll. The Herons return to action at 4:30 p.m., on Oct. 12, when they host No. 8 Cortland (10-1).
